PKAllocate (Order Router) to DOM.

Hello iSeries Shops,

As you are probably all aware, PKAlllocate (Order Router) is no longer supported by ManH.

I am just curious as to how many people have migrated from PKAllocate running on the iSeries to DOM running in AIX/DB2/Webshphere or Linux/ORACLE/JBoss stack?

Any thoughts?

Thank You,

Jeff

Hi Jeff,

I can't say that we've (Incite - WMS Consulting firm) come across this scenario yet. However, it may be better and more cost effective to keep PkAllocate and have someone like us support and modify it for you as you need. Here is an article about this approach in general here: What Your WMS Vendor Doesn't Want You to Know.

If this is something you'd like to explore, please let me know.

Hello, thank you for the reply.   You do have a point that if PKAllocate is working then you can just have someone besides ManH support it.  That could even include a team of internal iSeries developers that are familiar with this package.  I was mostly looking too if other WMS package users have going down this route.  I do appreciate your response.

Did I possibly post to a forum that is not really meant for the general WMS community to share ideas and thoughts?

Thanks,

Jeff P

All too often, when Manh says that we will no longer support you, clients think they are forced to upgrade, etc. But there are other options. And yes, if you have your own internal team, that would be the best route. They already know your business and are already on the payroll.

Yes, this is a general WMS forum...so others may respond too if they've come across this bridge yet :)

Chad,

Thank you for the response.  I am not on the decision end of what gets supported.  I happen to be a developer on an iSeries that helps support a ManH WMS environment from time to time.  I also happen to enjoy forums where you see other opinions and thoughts .

Thanks for sifting through all of the typographic errors in my last post.

You are right though about resources.  Already on the payroll.  Already have a solid iSeries running WMi along with various other packages including a home grown ERP.  DOM running on a different technology stack can equate to hidden costs.

I have found that when ManH drops support of a product in favor of their new product, they tend to forget about some of the functionality that their customers took advantage of in their previous product.

Jeff
